Our Projects

Our initiatives blend indigenous knowledge with practical action to protect Somalia’s unique biodiversity and support its communities. Each project is built on local partnership, driven by science, and measured by lasting change. Browse our ongoing efforts and past work to see how we’re turning vision into impact on the ground.

Frankincense Conservation & Habitat Restoration Project

For generations, frankincense has been a cultural and economic pillar for Somali communities. Our ongoing program, active since 2020, works directly with these communities in the Bari, Sanaag, and Gardafu regions to protect and restore this vital dryland forest ecosystem. We combine ancient Traditional Ecological Knowledge with field science to combat unsustainable harvesting, remove parasitic plants, and promote sustainable management, ensuring both the trees and the livelihoods they support can thrive for generations to come.

Combating Illegal Trade in Wildlife & Plants

Somalia's unique wildlife and plants are under threat from illegal trafficking. Since 2024, we have been leading a frontline response across Puntland by empowering local communities as stewards and key informants. By building a network of community monitors and strengthening collaboration with law enforcement, we work to detect, deter, and disrupt the illegal trade, protecting endangered species from the ground up

Reconnecting Communities with Nature Through Mobile Awareness

How do you spread a conservation message where there is no electricity or internet? Since 2023, our "Nature on the Move" mobile cinema has been traveling to the most remote villages across Puntland. Using inflatable screens and compelling films, we spark community dialogues on biodiversity and environmental stewardship, actively rebuilding the deep connection between people and their natural heritage.
