About SSI
Species Saviour Initiative (SSI) works to conserve threatened species, restore habitats, and strengthen community-led stewardship of biodiversity. Since 2021, SSI has been leading frankincense sustainability research and efforts to combat the illegal plant trade in Somalia.
Role Purpose
The Monitoring & Data Officer will play a key role in collecting, organizing, and managing data for SSI’s frankincense conservation project. The officer will support both field teams and technical staff to ensure accurate evidence is available for decision-making and reporting.
Main Responsibilities
- Support field data collection, including GPS mapping and ecological monitoring.
- Manage and clean project datasets for analysis and reporting.
- Work closely with technical consultants on preparing data for publication.
- Assist in developing monitoring protocols for community field teams.
- Prepare concise data summaries and contribute to donor and partner reports.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, GIS, or related field.
- Experience with data collection and management (Excel, Kobo, or similar tools).
- Knowledge of GPS and field survey methods preferred.
- Good communication skills in Somali (required) and English (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with field-based teams.
